Investment Creates Space For Further Growth

- MTS Sensor Technologie inaugurates new building -
The successful story of MTS Sensor Technologie in Lüdenscheid (Germany) is reflected by the building that accommodates the company: The complex was extended by about one third with a two-storey annex. The parking surface has reached more than the double size. During the quarterly meeting of the MTS Systems Board of Directors on March 1, 2007, Sidney W. Emery Jr., MTS CEO, President and Chairman of the board, and Joachim Hellwig, Vice-President MTS Sensors Division and Managing Director in Lüdenscheid, together with all staff members, celebrated the official opening of the new building.

In the course of the last years, the Lüdenscheid staff has grown to nearly 130 (including 3 apprentices and 4 trainees) and the sales have reached an annual volume of 27 million Euros. This is why  and as a clear confirmation of the German site. In a symbolic gesture, he and Joachim Hellwig cut the ribbon between the old and the new building – creating an atmosphere of strong confidence in the continued growth of the global market leader.

Half of the additional surface of 1000 m2 will be used for production purposes, where sensors for industrial automation, process automation and mobile hydraulics will be manufactured at short notice by customers. Moreover, new office surfaces at the extended building provide more space for new ideas and products to those working at the product development department. The space conditions will be improved also for intensive personnel promotion and training which are the basis of successful business activities at MTS. For instance, new offices will be available for four university leavers attending an MTS trainees’ program who are being qualified for business purposes. And on the whole, the new building is intended to create sufficient space for further growth of the company.

The company specializing in sensor technology was founded more than 3 decades ago by the Lüdenscheid-based brothers Joachim and Michael Hellwig. Having been sold to the American MTS Systems Corporation (U.S.A.) later on, the name of the company was changed from Hellwig GmbH into MTS Sensor Technologie. Intensive research and development activities and an investment policy aiming at future-oriented markets lead to a continuous business expansion of this flourishing supplier of state-of the-art technology.

To extend the technological lead on the national and international competition, as many as eleven engineers are involved in the Lüdenscheid sensor design and development alone. With a focus on magnetostrictive measurement technology, this crew is constantly discovering new market corners and activities in which MTS is ahead of other sensor manufacturers. Best example is the growing mobile hydraulics market, where MTS provides sensors for mobile machinery and vehicles such as excavators, combine harvesters, or the rear wing of Bugatti Veyron 16.4. For the OEM market, MTS in Lüdenscheid runs a high-automation manufacturing line for large-scale, cost-efficient production of a particular sensor series with reproducible quality.
