MTS introduces SIL 2 Compliant Sensors For Hazardous Area Applications
MTS Systems Corporation announced introduction of the new Temposonics® T-Series Sensor line for use in hazardous areas or safety areas applications.
This new sensor is the first linear positioning sensor used in these industries to meet Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 standards. Additionally, T-Series Sensors offer an ATEX and IECEx Zone 0/1, zone 1, zone 2, zone 21 and zone 22 flameproof and increased safety certification for hazardous areas.
“The T-Series Sensors offer performance and reliability not available in these industries today,” explained Robert Luong, MTS Sensor Technical Marketing Manager Industrial. “End users looking for a higher level of compliance and safety, now have the solutions they need. Despite of a lower cost there is no stint regarding performance or adding additional maintenance demands.”
MTS Sensors developed the T-Series Sensor based on a long history of product research and industry experience. Compared to linear variable differential transformers, the T-Series sensors offer more accurate and consistent position feedback with less wear and tear. These new sensors are characterized by a high degree of electromagnetic immunity, as well as a high degree of resistance to shock and vibration. Additionally, since these sensors utilize no moving parts, they can operate indefinitely with little or no maintenance required. They can be mounted in virtually any space without impeding performance of the sensor.
“The introduction of this product brings MTS Sensors into a new space in the market,” stated Robert Luong. “The Temposonics® T-Series is less expensive and performs comparably to any technology currently used in these applications today. In addition, it is the only product to offer SIL 2 compliance and sustainable performance. These advancements give us the tools we need to offer something new to engineers and product developers in these industries.”
